Nottingham · indoor pilot farm

Grown down
the road.
Cut to order.

Growise Farms is a small indoor farm in Nottingham. We're building a weekly box of our own produce, plus meat from local farm shops — for households who'd rather eat what's actually fresh.

The box isn't live yet — we're building the waitlist ahead of launch, and opening to a small number of Nottingham households first.

Why we started

We started Growise because we were tired of bland supermarket veg — grown far away, picked long before it was ready, just so it could survive the journey.

We believe fresh, local food isn't a luxury — it's part of a healthier, more connected community. So we built a small farm in Nottingham to grow it properly, and we're building a weekly box to get it to your table while it's still at its best.

But our own farm is only the start. Growise's real goal is to bring local farmers together — giving small growers one proven way to grow food indoors, year-round, so they can hold their own in a fast-changing agri-tech world instead of being priced out of it. One method, shared, so more farms around Nottingham can grow food for the people around them, all year.

What we're actually doing

A short supply chain, and no mystery about where your food came from.

01 / GROWN HERE

Grown in the city

Our produce is grown indoors in Nottingham — picked fresh and travelling minutes, not days, to reach you.

02 / SOURCED LOCALLY

Meat from farm shops we trust

We don't grow meat ourselves, so we buy it from local Nottingham farm shops rather than an anonymous wholesaler.

03 / ONE BOX

Kept simple, to start

One weekly box, built around what our farm actually grows well and what we can vouch for locally. Nothing shipped in just to bulk it out.

We're trying to make a small but real change in how food gets grown.

Everything we grow is monitored 24/7, using the same farm-management technology we're building for the farmers who join us — tracking light, water and growing conditions around the clock, not just checked in on. That same system gives you full traceability: you'll be able to see where your food actually came from, because what lands on your plate is also what you're feeding your children.

What's growing,
zone by zone.

The pilot is a working farm, not a mock-up — four crops, each with its own dedicated growing zone in the Nottingham unit.

01

Butterhead Lettuce

Grown hydroponically, harvested whole for the box.

02

Spinach

Tender leaf spinach, cut fresh for each week's harvest.

03

Basil

Grown for flavour and shelf life, not just looks.

04

Microgreens

Ready just days from sowing, packed with flavour.

Coming soon

More vegetables and fruit, added as the farm grows.

Bigger than us
46%
of the fresh produce eaten in Britain is imported — grown days away, and bred to survive the journey more than to taste of anything.

Why growing it here matters

When food travels a long way, prices and supply depend on things far outside anyone's control — fuel costs, weather abroad, shipping delays. Growing more food locally, in cities, close to where it's eaten, is part of how that changes.

Britain relying on other countries for nearly half its vegetables isn't just an environmental question — it's a food security one. More cities growing more of their own fresh produce, indoors and on a small footprint, is one way a country becomes less exposed to shocks on the other side of the world.

We're one small farm. We won't pretend a single pilot changes the national picture — but every local box is one less mile travelled, and one more pound staying in Nottingham.

Fewer miles

Less travelled, less burned.

A lot of what lands on a British plate has already crossed a continent. Spanish strawberries travel around 1,600 km to reach the UK; South African apples around 9,700 km — mostly by lorry, ship and cold storage, all of it burning fuel along the way.

Our produce is grown and delivered inside Nottingham — no long-haul shipping, no weeks in refrigerated transit between harvest and your door.

Worth being straight about: transport is only one part of a food's total footprint — how a farm is heated, lit and powered matters too, and we haven't measured our own numbers yet. What we can promise today is the short, visible supply chain: grown minutes away, not flown or shipped in.

1000s
of kilometres is how far a lot of UK supermarket veg travels before it's eaten. Ours travels across Nottingham.
Why it's worth it

Fresher food, and the full story behind it.

Cut close to delivery

Grown minutes away, not days — greens that haven't spent a week in transit.

Flavour that shows up

Picked closer to its peak than anything that's had to survive a long journey.

Know where it's from

Our own farm for produce, named local farm shops for meat — not an anonymous supply chain.

Supports Nottingham

Your spend stays local — backing our farm and the farm shops we buy meat from.

This is a representative box, not a fixed weekly order — it's here to give you a feel for what arrives, not a promise of exact quantities or pricing.

Our meat

From farm shops we trust, not a wholesaler.

We don't grow meat ourselves — so rather than sourcing it anonymously, we buy it from local farm shops around Nottingham, the same kind of small producers we're trying to support with everything else we do.

It means what's in your box has a real, local source behind it — not just a barcode.
